Individual Therapy

“In old Celtic stories, where life is dark and full of danger, poets and seers teach people how to face the darkness. They teach that life is about standing in a narrow passage, in the dark, with your back against the wall, facing a dragon. There is no escape. The only question, in these old stories, is how well you fight. This is a somber vision, but also one that celebrates the courage that the darkness calls forth.” -Sue Johnson

When To Come In For Individual Psychotherapy?

Depression

Ending a relationship, coping with the loss of someone close, moving across a country away from family or friends, losing a job or loneliness/isolation may have a detrimental impact on a person’s life to the point of affecting performance in any activity, whether scholar, professional or leisure, as well as having a compromising effect on friends and family relationships, and decision-making and concentration.
Feeling depressed is extremely challenging and a most difficult and lonely experience, it is also treatable and temporary. I can help you with that.

Anxiety

Today’s lifestyle has spiked the levels of stress a person experiences, and constant levels of distress will usually generate some sort of anxiety; be it long hours at the office, having too many responsibilities, feeling utter uncertainty over a situation in the future or facing money-related issues can cause unstoppable rumination, uncontrolled panic, paralysis and numbness, and even Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) that takes place when an event occurs that has been too much, too soon or too fast for our mind and body to properly process and integrate it.

Benefits of Individual Psychotherapy

By taking individual psychotherapy you can expect to make the necessary changes to improve your well-being by:

My Therapy Process Using Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT)

The first step is an initial evaluation session to get some background about you, the reasons you are seeking counselling and your goals. Additionally, I will be answering your questions regarding my services, confidentiality, and what to expect in therapy.

From the second session I will typically work on the issue at hand by going deep into what is a source of pain in that situation so that it can be processed little by little and you can find balance in such scenario. Being able to adapt to each problem will be key to concretely treat them; in some cases, I may use Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) psychotherapy if I deem it necessary.
